Painter Luis Alvarez de Lugo to Exhibit His Works in Paris

Currently exhibiting at Sans Souci

The Venezuelan realist painter Luis Alvarez de Lugo is exhibiting forty-eight works at the “Sans Souci” Art Gallery, after a year and a half of work.

The artist indicates that he paints every day, working with tenacity, because “painters are like pianists: if they don’t practice daily, they lose their agility.”

Luis Alvarez de Lugo was born in Caracas in 1923. He studied at the School of Plastic Arts under the direction of Ramón Martín Durbán. He held his first watercolor exhibition in ’42. Five years later, he studied at the “Famous Artists Course.” He obtained second prize in the Annual Exhibition of the Sala Reverón.

In 1965, he painted a portrait of the Liberator for the Session Hall of the National Academy of Medicine, and 그 same year the National Government acquired a portrait titled “Bolívar in 1828” for the office of the Chief of the Military Household in Miraflores.

The painter points out that all the exhibitions he has held, both collective and individual, have been in Venezuela, but he has already made contact with the “Marcel Berhei” gallery in Paris to exhibit his works next year.

“Venezuelan painting is gaining interest,” says Alvarez de Lugo, “because new artists, each in their own themes, are contributing many interesting things to pictorial art; they are very interesting, furthermore, the different concepts and interpretations of the same theme, such as El Avila.”

He explains that his theme is rural, by preference, because he likes the countryside very much and he easily handles tropical green in its different shades to give atmosphere to his paintings.

“I started painting bullfighting scenes, but then I moved my theme to Venezuela, especially to the countryside,” he says, “because this is what I like, and one must paint what one likes best in order to express oneself better.”

The artist Alvarez de Lugo prefers to use the palette knife and the brush combined, but he handles pen and ink, India ink, and pencil drawing to perfection.

Expondrá sus Obras en París el Pintor Luis Alvarez de Lugo

Hoy exhibe en la Sans Souci

El pintor realista venezolano Luis Alvarez de Lugo expone cuarenta y ocho obras en la Galería de Arte “Sans Souci”, después de año y medio de trabajo.

Indica el artista que pinta todos los días, trabajando con tesón, porque “los pintores son como los pianistas: si no ensayan diariamente pierden la agilidad”.

Luis Alvarez de Lugo nació en Caracas el año 1923. Cursó estudios en la Escuela de Artes Plásticas, bajo la dirección de Ramón Martín Durbán. Realizó su primera exposición de acuarelas, en el año 42. Cinco años más tarde, sigue estudios en el “Famous Artists Course”. Obtiene el segundo premio en la Muestra Anual de la Sala Reverón.

En el año 1965 realiza un retrato del Libertador para el Salón de Sesiones de la Academia Nacional de Medicina, y ese mismo año el Gobierno Nacional adquiere para el despacho del Jefe de la Casa Militar, en Miraflores, un retrato con el nombre de “Bolívar en 1828”.

El pintor señala todas las exposiciones que ha realizado, tanto colectivas como individuales, han sido en Venezuela, pero que ya hizo contacto con la galería “Marcel Berhei”, en París, para exhibir sus obras el próximo año.

—La pintura venezolana está tomando interés —dice Alvarez de Lugo— porque los nuevos artistas, cada uno en su temática, están aportando muchas cosas interesantes al arte pictórico; son muy interesantes, además, las diferentes concepciones e interpretaciones de un mismo tema, como por ejemplo el Avila.

Explica que su temática es rural, con preferencia, porque le gusta mucho el campo y que maneja con facilidad el color verde tropical, en sus diferentes tonalidades, para darle atmósfera a sus cuadros.

—Comencé pintando escenas taurinas, pero luego trasladé mi temática a Venezuela, especialmente al campo —expresa— porque esto es lo que me gusta y uno debe pintar lo que más le guste para poder expresarse mejor.

El artista Alvarez de Lugo utiliza con preferencia la espátula y el pincel combinado, pero maneja a la perfección la plumilla, tinta china, y dibujo a lápiz.
