Five famous painters have taken possession of the tropical beauty of the Park and have translated it into 25 magnificent oil paintings. This is, in essence, the great truth of the stupendous collective exhibition opening today—the new Painting Salon of Parque del Este—where the public can generally delight in contemplating these 25 masterpieces of sober, natural, and immensely rich painting in color.
Above all, it should be noted that they have served a single motive: the Park. To bring to the canvas the variety of green, blue, greenish, violet, twilight, and splashing landscapes in graceful herons, lagoons, and rocks that the Park itself offers us in a cheerful and tropical geography, taking the majestic Avila as a backdrop in most cases. This was the inexhaustible source of inspiration for all the great Caracas painters from the time when they themselves suggested, in an elongated valley of Caracas, the colonial houses with red roofs, contrasting with the bright reds of the carnations of Galipán.
The Exhibition We had the opportunity to interview the promoters who were making the final touches to turn this exhibition into a reality today. We moved to the site and decided to establish a dialogue with these notable artists. Last Tuesday, the painters were busy setting up their own exhibition, supported by their family members.
There was Maestro Carlos Otero, with his vast artistic experience; Tomás Golding and Luis Álvarez de Lugo, undeniable exponents of another generation; and Marie Urdaneta and Gustavo de Lima. Simple and honest artists, they were ready to pause their work to offer us this interview.
“How did the idea of setting up this exhibition arise?” To the first question, Tomás Golding replied: “Who wouldn’t fall in love with Parque del Este, with the wonderful backdrop of El Avila?”

Esta es, en esencial, la gran verdad de la estupenda muestra colectiva que ofrece hoy —nuevo Salón de Pintura del Parque del Este— donde el público en general podrá deleitarse contemplando estas 25 obras maestras de una pintura sobria, natural, e inmensamente rica en color.
Y, sobre todo, honra que se ha servido de un solo motivo: el parque, para llevar al lienzo la variedad de los paisajes verdes, azules, verdiazules, violetas, crepusculares, salpicados en graciosas garzas, de lagunas y peñascos, que el parque mismo nos brinda en una alegre y tropical geografía, teniendo, en la mayoría de los casos, como fondo al majestuoso Ávila. Inagotable fuente de inspiración de todos los grandes pintores caraqueños, desde los mismos días en que surgieron en un largo valle de Caracas las coloniales casas de techos rojos, contrastando con los rojos claveles del Galipán.
La Exposición Tuvimos ocasión de entrevistar a los presentadores que estaban haciendo los últimos toques para convertir en realidad esta exposición de hoy. Nos trasladamos al lugar y decidimos establecer un diálogo con estos notables artistas. El pasado martes, los encontramos afanados en el montaje de su propia exposición, colaborados por sus propios familiares.
Allí estaba el Maestro Carlos Otero, con su vasta experiencia artística; Tomás Golding y Luis Álvarez de Lugo, exponentes irrefutables de otra generación; y Marie Urdaneta y Gustavo de Lima. Artistas sencillos y honestos, dispuestos a la plática, por lo que facilitaron nuestra tarea para acometer y llevar a feliz término esta entrevista-relato.
“¿Cómo surgió la idea de montar esta exposición?” A la primera pregunta respondió Tomás Golding como artista: “¿Quién no se enamora del Parque del Este, con el fondo maravilloso del Ávila?”
